the annual meet–up for idiopathic intracranial hypertension sufferers
It was good to be able to put faces to names at last!!! We had a great time and will certainly be looking forward to next year.
Michelle
I can't put into words how it felt after 18 years to actually meet someone else who had the same condition!
Lyn

Here are the questions (and their answers) that we get asked about the Weekender most often. Got a burning question we haven't answered here that you're itching to know the answer to? Drop us a line using our contact form, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
IIH UK makes no charge for the weekender itself, but obviously if you stay at the Hotel there are accommodation costs. If you plan on only joining us for the AGM and afternoon session on Saturday 15th May then the cost will be £10 to include buffet lunch and coffee breaks. Please e-mail info@iih.org.uk to pre-book your Saturday only place.
Accommodation costs £95 per person for the weekend (Friday – Monday) for 'almost' full board (the only meal not provided is Sunday lunch). On Saturday a buffet lunch will be provided as part of the IIH UK AGM festivities. The cost for children aged 6 - 14 years old is £50 Chidren aged 5 and under are free.
Yes, there will be. Our 2009 Weekender was a great success and the details are out for our 2010 Weekender. As soon as it's over we'll be starting to think about 2011 (though maybe we'll give the team a couple of weeks to recover first ;-)). If you want to keep up to date with plans for our next Weekender, you can ask to be put on our mailing list by contacting us using the contact form as the mailing list will be the first place we release details of what we have planned.
IIH UK HQ for 2010 will be in our Secretary's Hotel room. You will be notified of the room number on arrival.
You certainly can! The more the merrier! Children are welcome too, as is anyone who either has IIH, knows someone with IIH, or just has an interest in IIH. This is the annual opportunity for those with IIH and those close to someone with IIH to get together and meet others in the same situation, and we welcome anyone to come along and join in the fun!
Nope, you don't have to be either to come along and join in the fun (though obviously we'd be delighted if you wanted to join us!). Anyone with IIH or close to someone with IIH is welcome to come along and join us for the weekend. Only IIH UK members though will be eligible to vote in our AGM. If you're not an IIH UK member and would like to join us, check out the IIH UK website for further details on how to join, or contact us using the contact form for further information.
It is too early to say where we will hold our 2011 Weekender. If 2010 turns out to be as successful as 2009 then it will be more than likely that our 2011 AGM and Weekender will be held at the same Hotel.
Check out the information page for all the information on the hotels facilities.
Again, check out the information page for information on maps, directions, and transport links to the holiday park.

IIH UK had been four years in the planning, but IIH has taken it's toll, and as most of the members of the IIH UK committee are IIH sufferers themselves, there were times when progress was slow when team members were unwell. Towards the end of 2007 though the planning of IIH UK started again in earnest, and we now have a strong team of IIH UK Officers who are committed to the IIH cause, and have systems built into our structures to ensure the smooth running of IIH UK if individual team members are unwell.
IIH UK was formed by a group of IIH sufferers and supporters who "met" on the internet through the original "BIH Forum" which ran for eight years on it's founder Michelle's website. At that time it was one of the few places that the geographically scattered and relatively small numbers of people diagnosed with IIH could get support from those who understand living with this condition on a daily basis - the sufferers themselves. More recently the day to day running of the forum has been taken over by Rachel, and the forum has moved to it's own domain, iihsupport.org.
Aside from IIH, the one thing all the IIH UK team had in common was that we realised that when we were first diagnosed, and desperate for information on this strange rare condition we'd been told we'd got, we could find little information on it. There was no one place where we could find information in a readily accessible format, and for most of us it was pure luck that we stumbled upon the "BIH Forum".
Although there are other organisations who provide some information on IIH, there was no national organisation dedicated to the needs of sufferers of IIH in the UK, and no "natural" place to think of to look for information....so we set about and we set one up!
We're all either diagnosed with IIH, or are close to someone who lives with IIH. Most of the team are not medically trained, but we have all lived with IIH for some time and have a lot of experience in dealing with the issues that surround IIH. Each member of the team brings their unique skills and talents, and we have put together a management team that includes members experienced in working in the voluntary sector, with research skills, administrative and secretarial skills, financial and fundraising skills, publicity and newsletter production, strategic planning...working as a team we have the combined skills to be able to effectively run IIH UK, and to raise awareness of the condition, providing a voice for IIH sufferers, and working with the other organisations, both in the UK and internationally to push the IIH agenda forward, and perhaps most importantly, to work with the medical profession towards improving treatment for those with IIH.
You can read more about our aims and our plans for IIH UK on our website.
The IIH Weekender is both an opportunity for members of the IIH Support forums and IIH UK to meet up, and will also be the venue for our Annual General Meeting.
Whether you're already a member of the IIH Support forums, or you've perhaps just stumbled upon our website and you're affected by IIH, we'd be delighted to welcome you to our IIH Weekender. Please explore the website for further details of what we're planning, and if you're interested in being kept informed of our future plans, please use our contact form to drop us a line and ask to be added to our mailing list.
